StandWithUs Canada Responds to Newly-Released Campus Antisemitism and Student Experiences (CASE) Report

OTTAWA, ON (August 5, 2026) – The Campus Antisemitism and Student Experiences (CASE) report released today revealed disturbing findings: 96% of Jewish students surveyed experienced or witnessed at least one antisemitic incident in the last year, 84% say antisemitism is a serious problem on their campus, and 70% believe their institution does not take antisemitism seriously.

“Universities should be places of learning, not where students feel pressured to hide their identity, remain silent in class, or fear harassment because they are Jewish or pro-Israel,” said Michelle Dor, StandWithUs Canada’s Executive Director. “The report found that 72% of Jewish students limit what they say in class about being Jewish, while many described harassment, exclusion, intimidation, and a profound loss of confidence in their institutions. This is an entirely unacceptable environment for Canadian universities to allow to fester and demonstrates just how untenable the situation has become.”

Perhaps the most important conclusion is that antisemitism on campus is not simply a series of isolated incidents. It is a campus climate issue.

“…antisemitism on campus is not a private problem for Jewish students to manage on their own. It is a campus-governance problem, a classroom-culture problem, and a Canadian problem.”

StandWithUs Canada has worked and supported Jewish and pro-Israel students who have shared these experiences while being told by academic institutions that they were isolated, exaggerated, or simply part of difficult political debate. This report provides independent, evidence-based confirmation that the problem is widespread, and requires meaningful action.

Addressing antisemitism does not require universities to abandon academic freedom or open discussion. It requires them to uphold their responsibility to provide learning environments where every student can participate fully, express their identity openly, and pursue their education free from discrimination, intimidation, and harassment. This begins with a comprehensive review of institutional policies, reporting mechanisms, and disciplinary processes, recognizing that anti-Zionism can constitute discrimination when it targets or excludes Jewish students, and committing to transparent, annual reporting on the steps taken to improve campus safety and address antisemitism.

StandWithUs Canada remains committed to working with students, educators, administrators, policymakers, and legal professionals to advance education, strengthen campus policies, and ensure that Jewish students can learn in safety and dignity. We also invite lawyers and legal professionals across Canada to join our legal network to help support students facing antisemitism and discrimination on campus.
