StandWithUs Canada Calls for Termination of Dean of University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry for Lecture’s Antisemitic Materials

TORONTO, ON (February 27, 2026) – StandWithUs Canada is calling for the termination of Dr. Anil Kishen, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, following his inclusion of antisemitic imagery in a lecture. These images had no place in an academic setting, let alone a medical classroom. They reflect an alarming pattern of antisemitism that extends beyond students to faculty – individuals entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all, including Jewish and pro-Israel students.

“Although Dr. Kishen issues an apology, the gravity of this incident warrants meaningful action,” said Jesse Primerano, Executive Director at StandWithUs Canada. “The use of such visuals perpetuates antisemitic tropes that have echoed throughout history and contributes to the worsening climate for Jewish students on campus. While we acknowledge the step of taking accountability, this offence demands consequences that that reflect its severity.”

No specific policy has been cited, but the Dean is on leave while an investigation is underway. This process includes reviewing the materials and context, consulting the Equity or Human Rights office, and interviewing relevant parties. Depending on the findings, consequences could range from training or education to formal reprimand, suspension, or more serious employment actions.

While training and education are necessary and important steps for faculty, we urge that the strongest possible action be taken, as this incident further endangers the safety of Jewish and pro-Israel students on campus and intensifies their ongoing stigmatization.
